5.0 out of 5 stars Fattyfpuffs and Thinnifers, 10 Dec 2003
By A Customer
Fritz Wegner's deliciously funny and beguiling illustrations are unforgettable, and more than do justice to this excellent story. This edition also includes a very witty and enjoyable written introduction by Raymond Briggs, though none of his illustrations. A book to treasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars To be Read in Bed with a Snack - by A Fattypuff, 21 Jun 2003
By A Customer
This book is a classic. Read it now!!! It's been out of print for years and I've been scouring the country for it. Once you've read it I'm sure you'll agree that it should never be allowed to go out of print again. It has all the elements of a true childrens classic: humour; surrealism; grand adventures; and just enough of a moral. The quality of writing and plot are sufficient to warrent a wide adult readership as well, and, like all classics, it will never go out of date. Forget whether you're a Griffindor or a Slytherin, a Swallow or an Amazon; the REAL question is: Fattypuff or Thinifer?

5.0 out of 5 stars FATTYPUFFS AND THINIFERS, 7 Nov 2004
An eternal classic by the classic French author, Andre Maurois, it is the story of two brothers who find an underground land one day, divided into two countries, one belonging to the Fattypuffs, who enjoy an hourly snack and an hourly nap, and the other to the Thinifers, who eat to live and work most of the time. The brothers, being one of each kind, are sent off to the different countries, and they have to live through the dreadful war, caused by each country's conviction that their way of life is best. After suffering, the question is resolved happily. The excellent illustrations add to the tale's wit and humanity.
