Synopsis
This is the story of one therapist's experiences with violence. Marjorie Holiman does not simply relate her cases; she lets the reader know what it is like to work with people who are violent and those who been violated. Bridging the personal and professional, she emphasizes how violence destroys relationships while resepect and love generate new connections. She outlines nine therapy tasks to help people change, including attention to safety, responsibility, retribution and forgiveness, and she concludes with her own story of her renewed capacity to love and be loved.
From the Author
Please talk to me about your reactions to my book.
I want to help others understand what I have learned as a woman and as a psychologist. My book describes my experiences and those of other people, and I have done my best to be practical, loving and honest about what I know. My goal is to have my writing be useful to all of us--those who have been harmed, those who have done harm, and those of us who want to help. I appreciate people taking the time to give me feedback and want to hear from you.
