5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, just plain outstanding..., 22 Jun 1999
By A Customer
I am a car nut. A certified, fully paid up, card carrying car nut, and I loved this book.

Although the Ford Taurus would not be my first choice of car to ever read a book about, it was a truly amazing read.

Full of the nitty gritty information that every car nut likes to read about, it was a cover to cover read in one weekend.

To be honest, I even have a new found respect for the Ford Taurus, if not for the people that run the Ford motor company. Well done indeed.

1.0 out of 5 stars The book did not capture the drama of working on Team Taurus, 23 May 1999
By A Customer
I worked on Team Taurus during the launch of this car. This book is subtitled "A Drama of the American Workplace" but it completely failed to capture the true "drama" of what it was like to work on this project. Right off the bat, it's very negative about everything and everyone associated with the project. It certainly failed to capture the strong sense of purpose which we all felt working to try to build this car. Also, while everything is the book is true and accurate, it's written in such a boring tone that it's a chore to read. Insignificant details are added (such as what a person ordered to drink ?), while other major parts of the story are left out. (Like the fact that there was another launch team working their butts off in Chicago !) Overall the book does travel through the story of how the 1996 Ford Taurus came to be. However, you won't enjoy the ride....

4.0 out of 5 stars CAR an intriguing, satisfying read, 20 Oct 1997
By A Customer
As an employee in corporate America and a student of human nature, I read Walton's book with a great deal of enjoyment. While I never read her earlier books on Deming, I felt like it was particularly satisfying to see somebody who writes on the theories of good management writing an engaging and perceptive story about the practice of management.

Without any ties to the car industry except as a prospective consumer, I felt like the book was right on-target for a reader with little technical knowledge of the subject. I do work in the web site business, where we are always struggling with the relationship between graphic designers and content producers, much as designers and engineers duke it out at Ford. So that part of the book really resonated for me.

An easy and engaging read, which I found both educational and entertaining.
