4.0 out of 5 stars A happy ending!, 23 Aug 2003
By R. P. Sedgwick "Grim Rob" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Highsmith's final novel, a rare venture into mainstream fiction from her traditional crime genre, is very much written in the style of the rest of her work, although the plot and the feel of the book is completely different.

The story centres around a group of characters in Zurich who frequent a gay bar, and a summer that marks a significant chapter in each of their lives. Although not her greatest work, the story is well written, interesting, and keeps the reader turning the pages.

The book generally has a very happy and friendly feel to it - which is very distinctive to Highsmith's more normal self-obsessed (bordering on psychopathic) characters.
