Product Description

Review
Lewis has a gift for the rapid portrait. Unless you find his flippant one-liners irritating, it is a pleasure to be guided around the jungle of bond markets by his reminiscences and trenchant asides. . . . Apart from the belly-laughs, one of the triumphs of" Liar's Poker" is that it makes the financial complexities of investment banking and the markets accessible to the layman. . . . Everything from yields to selling short is painlessly clarified in the course of the narrative. -- Victor Mallet

Synopsis
The author recounts his experiences on the lucrative Wall Street bond market of the 1980s, where young traders made millions in a very short time, in a humorous account of greed and epic folly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!!, 26 Jun 1999
By A Customer
Last summer I worked on Wall Street for Goldman Sachs (the Salomom Brothers of the 90's). Going to NYC I expected to find the phone throwing backstabbing, disrespectful jerks in the book. What I did find was 90hr 6 days work weeks. The traders and salesmen were highly intense, intelligent, and most of all stressed. I did come across a few traders who still had the same mentality of the traders in the book. However, most of the "Liars Poker" types Wall Streeters have left. I actually met about three people in the book including Mike Mortara now head of fixed income @ Goldman.

My advice read this book. But, even after reading this book if you want a Wall Street career be prepared to give up you life and sleep.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a kind of Gargantua in english, 29 Jan 1999
By A Customer
I strongly recommend it. Fat and greedy traders of Salomon Brothers look like Gargantua of Rabelais.
