Product Description

Product Description

Dexter Bexley has ridden his scooter right into a big blue Beastie, who wants to eat him right up! Luckily, Dexter has lots of much better ideas. Together, they go into business delivering flowers, set up a Private Detectives agency and make the biggest, stickiest, tastiest yoghurt, fudge, banana and ice-cream Beastie feast ever! But what's going to happen when Dexter runs out of ideas?

From the Back Cover

"I'M BORED" said the Big Blue Beastie. "I THINK I SHOULD PROBABLY EAT YOU UP."

Quick-thinking Dexter Bexley comes up with all sorts of fun things to do with Beastie - but what happens when he runs out of ideas?

A brilliantly funny and original book about friendship by Joel Stewart.

"Joel's talent for telling is every bit as insightful as his drawings" Guardian

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun and imaginative story with quirky illustrations. Brilliant!, 15 Jul 2008
By ELH Browning "Esther-Lou" (Kingston Bagpuize, Oxon) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
An unusual yet simple beginning, gives the reader a great sense of anticipation and carries the reader right into the story. Dexter Bexley scooted .... (turn the page) and scooted.... (turn the page) right into.... (turn the page) a Big Blue Beastie. And although the Big Blue Beastie should probably have eaten up Little Dexter Bexley, Dexter Bexley would like to avoid being eaten so he comes up with better ideas. And so, the Big Blue Beastie first scoots with Dexter, and then their projects grow increasingly ambitious (and amusing to the reading on-looker).
My children (3-7) and I love the adventures of "Bexley and Beast: Private Detectives" which are each portrayed in only one of quaint picure each yet inspire the imagination to run wild (e.g. The case of the Solid Gold Snowball, and The Rubber Glove Affair). So Dexter successfully prevents himself being a snack for the Big Blue Beastie and at the end of this charming book it's the Big Blue Beastie who has the better idea.
This is a truly lovely book, timeless yet imaginative and the story is accompanied by fantastic illustrations, rather quirky and slightly old-fashioned, which follow the pace of the story with great flair and character. Brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars A modern classic in the making, 21 Aug 2008

This was a gift from my son's godmother - who has four children of her own - and is simply one of the funniest and engaging children's book that we've owned - and read... and read .... my son has loved it from the age of two and seeing that it still seems to be relatively undiscovered it's a great gift for friends whose kids seem to have all the normal favourites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dexter Bexley and the Big Blue Beastie, 9 Jun 2008

This is a fantastic book, witty and original with an unusual illustrative style. I am happy to read to my daughter again and again, I'm not sure which of us enjoys it the most.
