Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
There's always room for another fantasy quest trilogy--as long as it has distinction, originality and a cracking plot. Eragon has. This is the first book in Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Trilogy, which he began writing when aged only 15, is an amazing debut that demonstrates a written maturity beyond its creator's years. Any rough edges borne through inexperience are quickly forgiven as his story takes the reader on an imaginative journey by way of a host of likable and interesting characters and several breathtaking and dramatic sequences of high fantasy.

Eragon's adventure begins when he is out hunting one day in the mountainous region of his world known as the Spine. While eyeing-up a tasty deer with his bow, his aim is disturbed by a polished blue stone that explodes from the sky and narrowly misses him. The oval shaped object, cool and frictionless to his touch, weighs several pounds and it turns out to be his only reward from his day's hunting session. Returning to his home town Carvahall, Eragon's unsuccessful attempts to exchange the stone for meat for his family begins a run of bad luck that will eventually force him to flee his place of birth. This heralds the beginning of a new destiny for him.

The stone is in fact a dragon's egg and it hatches in Eragon's company--making him the first new Dragon Rider for many years. Suddenly, the fate of the Empire rests in his hands and he must navigate a dark and dangerous terrain, and some formidable enemies, to challenge the might of a king whose evil is limitless.

Despite its classic quest format there are enough new ideas and twists and turns to make it stand out among its legion of competitors in the genre. Eragon begins a bigger story that continues with the follow-up Eldest. Suitable for readers aged 12 and over. --John McLay

Product Description
When Eragon finds a polished stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy; perhaps it will buy his family meat for the winter. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself. Overnight his simple life is shattered and he is thrust into a perilous new world of destiny, magic and power. With only an ancient sword and the advice of an old storyteller for guidance, Eragon and the fledgling dragon must navigate the dangerous terrain and dark enemies of an Empire ruled by a king whose evil knows no bounds. Can Eragon take up the ,antle of the legendary Dragon Riders? The fate of the Empire may rest in his hands -

5.0 out of 5 stars Eragon (First Book), 12 Aug 2005
I got this book when I had my 51st birthday from my eldest son and his girlfriend. He knew that I love fantasy books. I wasn't interested of reading the book at once because I was afraid that it wouldn't be as good as the books I read before like for example "Belgarion". When my son asked me about the book ( whether I like the book or not) a week later then I decided to start reading the book. From that night on, I could not stop reading the book. There are nights that I went to bed at 4 o'clock in the morning only because I needed to get up that same morning. The book is very good and entertaining and I recommend it to everyone I know here in Sweden och to those reading this review. I am now searching from different bookstores for the second book!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Eragon and Saphira, 2 May 2005
By A Customer
Wow, I bought this book about a year ago and I was amazed. The author, Christopher Paolini is my age and I would never be able to write such a magnificent book. It took me two days to read it the first time and i have just finished it again in even less. My friend is a huge Harry Potter fan, when I recommended she should read this she sneered and then after much persuassion she gave in. I saw her four days later and she said she loved it, when I asked was it as good as the Harry Potter books she said, "Even better!!" So you know it's going to be a good read. Everyone will fall in love with Saphira, as soon as i read about her hatching I wanted a baby dragon of my own, it was so well written that you could see what was happening as you were reading, i know that's what supposed to happen but you know what i mean. I hope the second book in the trilogy will be just as good if not better than the first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchanting Eragon - Get Your Claws On This!, 16 Feb 2005
Being a dragon lover myself, I saw this book in my local bookstore and just had to read it. Eragon transports you into a magical yet realistic world full of elves, monsters and, ofcourse, dragons. The book kept me utterly engulfed and, when it came to stop reading, left me wanting more. The fantastic and mystical world in which Paolini creates excites and enthrawls you and, once you're in, you really can not get out of it. Eragon covers a vast range of unfortunate and unlucky situations and are projected in such a way that you feel like you are sharing Eragon's worries yourself. The book is complicated but explains clearly the world of Alageasia, as Eragon is not the only person who is beginning to learn about it. I found this book a brilliant read and highly recomend it to fantasy, action, dragons(!) and adventure lovers of all ages. The book leaves you always yearning for your next read and the abrupt and sudden ending leaves you aching to get your claws on Eragon 2 and Eldest!
