4.0 out of 5 stars A perfect book for 9-12 year olds, 21 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: A Kind of Thief (Paperback)
This story tells of a thirteen year old girl called Elinor, who is forced to look after her younger brother and sister, Matthew aged nine and Judy aged seven, when her dad is arrested for laundering money. At first they plan to stick together but when their Italian stepmother plans a trip back to Italy, they are split and up and go to stay with aunts in all-different corners of England. But Ellie's father gave her a receipt for a case in lost property before he was taken away. When Elinor goes to fetch the case she has her beliefs that it is filled with money. She plans to use it to bail her father out but that would make her too a Kind of Thief.

This book is absolutely perfect for a child of 9-12 years old like me. It has been described by many as the Railway Children of the nineties, and I can see why. Personally I love this book because of its speed and the way you get a feel for the characters. I also love it because of its reality and the way it makes you think what you would do in the same situation. It also shows how each little thing can become so important in the fight for freedom. This book is a classic Vivian Alcock novel, believable and gripping.
