5.0 out of 5 stars A Must read - wow, 10 April 2003
This is my first Karen Hawkins novel, but is is third in the St. John's talisman ring series, (after An affair to remember). But I found no problem in reading and followering the plot.

Brandon St. John has the ring in his possession and who holds the ring will fnd their true love (that is what legend states). Hence why all the St. John men fear the ring. But not our irresistable rogue Brandon. A meeting among the St. John's men to discuss the paying off another of Chases (youngest brother) "fortune hunter" women. It is concluded that Brandon has the duty to visit and get rid of the widowed Lady Westford. But nothing is what it seems, the Lady Verena Westford was a Landsdowne, a family of extraordinary characters. Her wit and strength are things that Brandon has never experienced. The chemistry is strong between the two - like a powder keg.

With the combnations of a deadly plot, Herbert the worst butler in London and verena'a antics. it s book that will make you laugh and keep you on the edge of your seat. A Must read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Highly enjoyable, 3 April 2003
Brandon StJohn is trying to protect his younger brother Chase from himself, even if that means paying off the woman, Verena Westford, Chase wants to marry. Yet, there is a twist because Verena does not want to marry Chase. So when Brandon offers the money she takes it anyway and decides to make Brandon the talk of the town. Along with this, Verena, her brother and Brandon are in a spot of bother with the Home Office and just because of a list. There are a couple of twists, but Brandon and Verena set off sparks when they are together.
With Verena's bulter, a light-fingered fellow from Julia's (of The Abduction of Julia) project to reform the London poor, there is a lot of laughs and the introduction of a number of new characters. Who I can only hope we learn more about soon.
