Romance publishers seem to be on a trend of reprinting, with or without socially acceptable updates, older novels. Some of these reprints are a good thing, as some author's earlier work gets a chance to be more widely read, now that the author may be more popular than they were in the past. That is the case with Susan Andersen. She has some really great books that went out of circulation because there was less of an appetite for romantic suspence then there is currently. Andersen has a knack for writing about people and places in a way that makes them seem believable and true.

In this story of a show-girl in Nevada, and a cop sent down from Seattle to help the local police to find a serial killer bent on murdering show-girls, there is a gradual, growing relationship between the protagonists. Amanda dances because she loves it, and the cop, Tristan McGlaughlin is world weary. Neither is looking for a relationship, but both are attracted to the other. One of Amanda's room mates is killed by the 'Show-girl Slayer', leading to the introduction of the protagonsts when Amanda and her other room-mate go to identify the body.

This novel does succesfully what many writers of romantic suspence, now that it is popular again, only strive to do. It balances the needs for the romantic element against the needs of the plot, so that the two work together, rather than one being a backdrop for the other.
