5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a scene book with RECENT classics,, 8 Mar 1999
By A Customer
including scenes from Pulp Fiction, Swingers, Grifters, Chasing Amy, Clerks, The Crying Game, Annie Hall, Bullets Over Broadway, Lone Star, Moonstruck, Waiting to Exhale, The Player, Thelma and Louise, Strictly Ballroom, Raising Arizona, Do the Right Thing, Broadcast News, and just about every other great flick made recently. The intros which precede each scene are chock full o' useful info. The only thing I don't get is why the title says it's "for actors." I think it's just as useful for screenwriters like myself, because it brings together so many examples of great dialogue writing in a single, well-organized and attractive book. Thank you Angela Nicholas, wherever you are!

5.0 out of 5 stars An important resource for actors, 11 April 1999
By A Customer
While there are dozens of "scene study" books out there for theater, this book by Angela Nicholas fills the void for film - and it is a must-have for any actor or actress seriously seeking to study the craft of their profession. The scenes themselves represent films that can be rented relatively easy, and this makes for a great comparison study of how the screenplay "works" - compared to your own efforts. (Or, sometimes, how the soundtrack or lighting or other film tricks make awkward writing look good.) Separate from that, it is fun to browse through the scenes and see how they were brought to life on-screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a scene book with good scenes!, 11 April 1999
By A Customer
I've picked up so many scene books for auditions and usually they have, like, 20 monologues, of which 15 are from Eugene O'neill and/or David Mamet. This book, as can be seen in the title, offers much more than the usual. Not only that, but it's about half the price of any other scene book taht I've ever seen!

5.0 out of 5 stars A book of great scenes that an actor can afford! Finally!
As an actor, I am pleased that this is not just another collection of the same old dredged up scenes from outdated films that none of us have heard of or care about. Read more
