When she invented Pete Decker and Rina Lazarus Faye Kellerman launched one of the most refreshing series in the field of crime and mystery writing. The characters are multi-dimensional, the plotting rings true and the reader always ends up empathizing with hero and heroine. In fact, the only criticism might be that the characters are too good. So what do we get in Moon Music ? A cop with distinctly unattractive characteristics and behaviour towards women, a heroine who never manages to develop under his shadow, and a plot that mixes mystery with mysticism. Oh, and a supporting cast borrowed both from a freak show and the Decker/Lazarus series; another female cop with weight and boyfriend problems, for instance... The whole thing has a feel as if it was a plot for Pete & Rina where FK couldn't find a way of linking them to the location that's central to the plot. Nevertheless, it's a great read, and the characters, with development, deserve a second outing, although it would be nice to find someone in FK's world who didn't have a dysfunctional family somewhere in their lives...(Only joking; we all know tension creates drama, don't we?)

I love the Pete Decker series that FK writes so was looking forward to this book too but it was a huge disappointment. The plot tried to be clever and unorthodox but just came out as lame, it seemed like FK couldn't be bothered to have a real ending so created something bizarre at the last minute. The characters were unsympathetic and to be honest i didn't care who lived or died. I also found the first half of the book very confusing as it jumped around a lot and the characters all seemed to merge together.

I hate to say this about a Faye Kellerman book but don't bother, you'll be sorely disappointed.

As a fan of the Peter Decker series, I picked this up expecting the same high quality as the Decker novels. Unfortunately, this did not deliver. Plot lines which are unrealistic, time frames which jump all over the place and unbelievable characters.

Do not buy this book, you will be disappointed.
