Not in Front of the Children is a brilliant case history of free speech disputes in which harm to minors has been used as a justification for censorship. It ranges from the 'Hicklin test' of 1868, which holds that material should be outlawed if it might harm its most vulnerable consumers, to recent controversies involving the internet.
