5.0 out of 5 stars Action, adventure and one of the weirdest romances ever, 13 Jul 2006
By C. Y. Davidson "Voraciousforbooks" (Lee, South London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've just finished reading this book and it's excellent. I can't believe that the author managed to pack so much into 300 odd pages. This doesn't read like a Sihouette, as it is no frothy romance. The book starts with a Maggi (Magdalene)Sanger who is one of the Grail Keepers, descended from a long line of women who worship a godess and are charged with keeping their grails; objects of power for all women.

The family legend states, that once their was a great Queen who had nine daughters, when it was time for them to go out into the world, they were each given a cup to pour their power into and share with all the women in the world.
Maggi starts off thinking that maybe the stories she's been raised with are just fairy tales, but then someone breaks into her home and then there is a call from Paris, informing her that her Aunt has just been attacked, after giving a talk about the Grails and the goddess. Also there is her on/off love Lex, who like Lex Luthor is mega rich, bad guy, and since you know from the beginning that he's wrong for her despite their long history and attraction, this is no ordinary romance. Maggi has gained powerful enemies who are threatened by the possible existence of the grails and have no quams about trying to kill her, there is the actual hunt for the grail and the fear that she can't trust Lex, since he clearly knows more than he's telling. It's not clear who is her love interest, as there is potential with her ally a ex-catholic priest.

This is the first in a series, 'Grail Keepers', in the next Maggi is off to Eygpt and I can't wait to find out how that plays out. Definitely a keeper!

5.0 out of 5 stars splendid, 19 Feb 2008
By Tasneem "kitty" (Manchester, UK) - See all my reviews
I loved reading AKA Goddess. The action was fast paced, and the characters well drawn. I enjoyed the way the book not only told the story as it unfolded, but also gave us glimpses into the childhoods and relationship of Maggie and Lex. The secondary characters were also well fleshed out, and it was a delight to read. As the other reviewer has gone more fully into the plot, I shall not dwell on that myself. However, I really did enjoy the history, the tapestry of mythology and the locations the story covers. Well researched and well written, like a Dan Brown [only better] for women and romance lovers.
