The book is about a Lord Wyse who marries fresh faced Lady Rose Lambe in a marriage of convenience and the trials and tribulations brought about by her love of him and plots against her by her evil cousin. (The usual large, strong but gentle hero and tiny but brave heroine format.) Where the book falls down is the authors lack of knowledge of English society, the use of modern idioms and the odd Americanism. For instance, Lord Wyse is a Marquis and his wife would therefore be a Marchioness but in the novel she is referred to as a Marquise, which would be correct if it was set in France. Rose's description of her horse as a pinto, rather than piebald. Not a favoured colour for "society" horses, a colour more favoured by gypsies at the time I think. OK, I am being picky but these were just a few examples of things that grate. This book does not hold your attention, the wit is childish, the grammar atrocious, I found I skipped paragraphs and pages just so I could get to the end and get rid of the book. Try reading Samantha Saxon or Gayle Wilson, or Lisa Kleypas etc etc if you want a well researched, exciting, historical romance with an original plot.
