This book shows the Morland family spreading its members far and wide - Jemima at Morland Place, Charles to Maryland during the American Independence uprising, and Henri in Paris leading up to the French Revolution.
The individual characters once again hold your heart, and Charlotte's fate pulls on the heartstrings - Cynthia, you were really cruel to her!
I never had an interest in Naval matters until I read this book, either, but William Morland awoke a curiosity which was fed by the following three books. Another winner!
