3.0 out of 5 stars Shades of Durrell, 29 Jul 2007
By Al (UK) - See all my reviews
What is at times a frustrating read, full of intrusive narrative opinion and featuring some truly awful condescension towards "working class single-parent families", turns out to be a reasonably gripping thriller with aspirations towards Lawrence Durrell (lightly veiled under references to 'Larry' himself and pastiche Cavafy poems).
The recreation of colonial Cyprus is the most successful aspect of this book and it should be read either in the Mediterraenean or while dreaming of it, with a cocktail by your side.
