Review
'A delightful yet thought-provoking snapshot of Moroccan life' Express 'It is easy to see why Tayler counts Bill Bryson amongst his fans' Good Book Guide

Product Description
Jeffrey Tayler follows the Draa by foot and on camel, recounting stays in casbah homes, visits to mosques and marabouts, and nights in hashish dens. It is a journey marked with extremes - of weather, as Tayler survives intense heat and sandstorms and potentially lethal local tribesmen - and one which he only narrowly escapes to tell this tale.

4.0 out of 5 stars Arduous Journey, Compelling Read, 15 Sep 2005
By Barney (Birmingham UK) - See all my reviews
A very enjoyable and compelling read, Jeffrey Tayler paints an evocative picture of the people of the Draa valley and fast disappearing ways of life of nomadic tribes people. He describes his ardous desert journey with great humility, sensitivity and humour. Throughly recommended. He's written a book about the Congo as well so that's next on the travel-reading list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Draa-matic!, 1 Jul 2008
By Rocksrgr8 "Rocksrgr8" (Bristol England) - See all my reviews
I bought this book after we visited the Draa Valley last year. The author accurately describes the sights and sounds of this fascinating region. He goes further to set the historical context of the peoples of the region as he travels down the Draa. The most moving theme through the book focuses on changing roles of the community and plight and struggle of individuals in modern day society, and how they once had an important role to play in the ancient socity. Captivating and a colourful. An excellant read whether you have been there, fancy going there or just want someone to provide you with an excellant armchair adventure- Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars More than a travel guide, 1 Jan 2008
By R. P. Smith "Paul Smith" (Yorkshire, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Jeffrey Tayler writes really good prose and his writing captures both the places he visits and the spirit of the people he meets. I received this for Christmas and started it after the family left and didn't put it down until it was finished. I've just ordered "Facing the Congo" by the same author which probably speaks volumes. For an American he really is very open minded and well informed. I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants to find out about parts of the world that they are unlikely ever to visit.
