Product Description

Sakura has a mysterious power, a power that no one understands, a power that can change the world. Syaoran is her childhood friend and leader of the archaeological dig that took his father's life. On the day Sakura goes to the dig to declare her love for Syaoran, a mysterious symbol is uncovered that will have vast repercussions for them both. It marks the beginning of a quest that will take Syaoran and his friends through worlds that will be familiar to any clamp fan, as our heroes encounter places and characters from "X", "Chobits", "Magic Knight Rayearth", "xxxHolic" and many more! But all that matters to Syaoran is his goal: saving Sakura. "Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle" crosses over with Clamps' other hit series, "xxxHolic"! --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Series, 23 May 2007
By kaya j (U.K.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tsubasa: v. 1 (Paperback)

I first picked up Tsubasa as a fan of Clamp's Cardcaptor Sakura, after hearing that the series somehow overlapped.
Tsubasa does feature Sakura and Syaoran (as well as other characters) from Cardcaptor Sakura, but they belong to an alternative world/dimension. If you haven't read Cardcaptor Sakura it doesn't matter at all, since Tsubasa's plot is totally independent. If you have read Cardcaptor Sakura, don't expect a sequel or any continuation story-wise. However, a lot of old characters do appear, which is nice and sometimes amusing.

In Tsubasa, Sakura is a princess and Syaoran is her childhood friend and the son of an archaeologist. In the first volume Sakura basically loses her memories, which take the form of feathers, dispersed across various alternate worlds. Syaoran vows to restore retrieve and restore Sakura's memories. They're joined by Fai, a powerful magician and Kurogane, a warrior, who both have their reasons for also needing to travel across different dimensions. Together, they all make a joint deal with the space-time witch Yuko (who stars in Clamp's xxxHolic), who enables them to travel across different worlds.

Various characters from other Clamp series have cameos/ roles within the worlds they visit but the core group is made up of Sakura, Syaoran, Fai, Kurogane and Mokona (from Magic Knight Rayearth). The basic premise of chapters/volumes is the group's arrival and search for Sakura's memories in each place/ dimension they visit. Not surprisingly, Clamp has a lot of fun with the different settings and time periods possible.

Overall Tsubasa is a great series. All the characters are well defined and as the series progresses it gains depth as we find out more about Syaoran, Fai and Kurogane's pasts. The stories are entertaining and funny, while at the same time some plots are emotional and moving. It's a good balance though! Anyway, whether you've read Cardcaptor Sakura or not, you won't regret giving Tsubasa a chance. It's getting more and more interesting as the series progresses; I'm definitely a fan anyway!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent volume of Tsubasa, 21 April 2006
By Rebecca Herman (USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
In volume eight of the Tsubasa manga, Syaoran, Sakura, Fai, Kurogane, and Mokona first travel to a strange jungle world inhabited by furry creatures being terrorized by a mysterious monster. The furry creatures claim the beast demands a sacrifice -- and if the companions cannot placate the monster, one of them will be that sacrifice!! The friends are able to figure out what the mysterious monster really is and reclaim the feather that is hidden in that world, but the encounter leaves them with an uneasy feeling. They then travel on to the main world of the new story arc that begins with this volume, the country of Shara, where Sakura, Syaoran, and Mokona end up in an all-female circus, and Kurogane and Fai at a temple that is home to a band of warriors. This was another great volume in this manga, with lots of sweet, funny, and exciting moments in it, as always, and it starts off an interesting now story arc. Fans of Tsubasa will not want to miss it.
