3.0 out of 5 stars Insipid, 1 Oct 2005
This and the previous book (Flinx's Folly) are extremely annoying. ADF has clearly delineated a plot for Flinx, the development of his talent, saving the galaxy etc, but seems unwilling to write a book that actually moves that plot forward. The books are well written, as usual, nicely styled, some interesting points, but not enough happens. The author seems to be treading water, maybe under pressure from his publisher to write more flinx books but struggling for ideas as to how to move the story forward. Also, he seems to be re-using plot devices, such as the female interest/friend of flinx getting shot at the end in each book. Also some continuity is lacking, such as where did Flinx's headaches go in this book? If people are adherents of Flinx and ADF they will stick with him though, hope springs eternal!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great spin on the web of Pip & Flinx, 25 Aug 2005

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Never have the cares of the universe lain so heavily on Flinx's shoulders, nor the forces arrayed against him seemed so invincible. Pursued by a newly revealed sect of doomsday fanatics, hunted by factions inside and outside the Commonwealth for transgressions real and imagined, expected to single-handedly avert a looming galactic crisis (or bear responsibility for the consequences), Flinx can be forgiven for feeling a slight touch of melancholy. According to his ship's AI, there's only one solution for what ails Flinx. But taking time off is tricky business. With an increasing number of enemies chasing him with ever-greater enthusiasm, Flinx must find a getaway shrouded in obscurity. Jast, a planet smack in the middle of nowhere, is the perfect locale.

This book more than met my expectations in the Pip & Flinx series dealing with the tumultuous life of Flinx.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pip & Flinx take another step towards their destiny., 16 Nov 2004
Another gripping yarn from the humanx commonwealth series, Pip & Flinx take another step in their continuing saga to meet the ultimate evil, no new powers in this book, no reappearing friends/enemies but Flinx discovers that all Aan are not the same, perhaps that will have some importance in the next book (can't wait to find out), I enjoyed it, hope you will too.
