5.0 out of 5 stars A real Blast, 14 Nov 2003
This book introduces some new adversaries and some old friends, which certainly adds interest. It tears along at a ripproaring pace from the start to the end.

Without giving too much away Flinx feels he needs help and someone to talk to so he looks up an old friend. Treading on some toes in the process, leads to various scrapes that (as always) he manages to escape one way or another, not always with the aid of his "Talents". Factored in are a new group of adversaries, hell bent on Flinx's destruction and the ever present headaches and dreams, this time a controlling influence in these dreams is partially revealed.

This book never lets up, with something happening all the time and I found myself reluctant to put it down because I wanted to find out what was going to happen next.

2.0 out of 5 stars And ... ???, 31 Jan 2004
I have to agree with Robert W Fredrick - what a disappointment! Don't get me wrong, Foster is still an excellent wordslinger and I avidly await the next Pip and Flinx novel.

Having said that, I fear Mr Foster's time may be running out. Reading Flinx's Folly was a bit like reading the first chapter of Book II of the Night's Dawn trilogy - you know a lot's happened; you know a lot's going to happen and the Author is busy telling you so. But at least there you've got another dozen or so chapters in front of you to answer that question ("And ...???"). Unless he is able to progress the plot a great deal more succinctly, he needs to consider a significant increase in the length of his next offering if he is to retain his readership. Unless of course he is consciously aiming to emulate the Perry Rhodan series (well over 50 books by the time I lost count).

Come on ADF, you're better than this. Show us what you can do in the next of the series

4.0 out of 5 stars A good book in an excellent series, 15 Sep 2005

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
The only book I've disliked in this series was "The-Tar-Aiym Krang". That was mainly because some of the details did not correspond with the other books in the series.

This book, on the other hand, fits perfectly into the series. The complaints about the revisiting of the past and too little progression do not take into account the fact that many of these series are meant to take the reader on a journey of discovery that makes the ending seem logical when it finally arrives. If Foster had come out and said that this was meant to be a trilogy, he would have failed miserably in his goal-setting. But Foster has not done so. Instead he has taken the reader (at least me) on the well-travelled road of adventure that leads the reader to an understanding of the psychological make-up of the protagonist and involvement in the fate of this likable young man. There are many examples of authors who use this kind of writing tactic. David Weber, Terry Goodkind and Robert Jordan are but a few of such writers.

I thorougly enjoyed the book and would wholeheartedly recommend it to any new or old reader of the works of AD Foster. One does not have to read any of the older works in order to get full enjoyment out of this one. All of the books in the series are stand-alone books - something I as a reader enjoy.

This book is a great disappointment. In 1995 when Mid-Flinx was published we learnt about the three sides of the triangle and the fourth element. Read more
