The Greatest Star Wars Essential Guide yet., 10 Nov 2005
By A Customer
Dan Wallace a long established author of the Star Wars Essential Guide series bring us with this New Essential Chronology the most comprehensive history of the Star Wars Universe covering the six films and the countless Books, Comics and video games that make up one of the most interesting and diverse Space Fantasy worlds of all time. The New Chronology covers the Star Wars universes early history, the origin of the Jedi Order, The Republics formation and the events that brought about the Siths move to the Rule of just two members, right on up to the events from the Clone Wars, the period between Ep III and IV and the Post ROTJ period ending in the New Jedi Order and the Dark Nest Trilogy. All of these sources are seemlessly interwoven to give an excellent read from begin to end with all eras getting attention. The artwork for this installment differs from the usual for the New Essential Guides and has more in common with the artwork found in the Star Wars Roleplaying Game sourcebooks published by Wizards of the Coast. There are great pieces covering scenes from books and events all across the Star Wars timeline that are really impressive. This Essential guide is a good edition to the series and is something that if you enjoy the Star Wars books and comics is a must buy for all the additional information it includes.

The Star Wars Galaxy: a complete history, 14 Aug 2006
The New Essential Chronology, an installment in the great New Essential Guide series, offers no less that the history of the Star Wars galaxy, ranging from several thousands of years before the establishment of the Republic to the events described in the Dark Nest novels, taking place, some 35 years after A New Hope.
Authored by LucasFilm/LucasArts authorities, Daniel Wallace and Kevin J. Anderson, the book is generally very well written, highly informative and highly entertaining as well, and presents a history of the galaxy based on the contents of the very wide range of Star Wars material published and released over he years, such as the movies, novels, comics, and computer games.
The book is perfect for the fangirl or fanboy who wants to get an overview of the chronology of contents of Star Wars material without having to read it all again. Also, the book brilliantly places individual characters and events in the course of the history of the galaxy, such that it is very easy for the reader to understand which role a given character or event has played in the history of the galaxy.
Written in an in-universe perspective, the text is often as capturing as a novel, and with really beautiful and dynamic illustrations by Mark Chiarello, John Van Fleet and Tommy Lee Edwards, New Essential Chronology is a pleasure to read. Unfortunately, a couple of typos and grammar mistakes made it through to the released version, and there are also some factual mistakes, like the presentation of Kreia and Darth Traya as two different persons.
Despite these minor bloopers, New Essential Chronology is highly recommendable for every fangirl and fanboy out there. Readers are guaranteed a positive experience.

STAR WARS in one BOOK, BRILLIANT!!!, 18 Jul 2006
This is definetly one of the best essential guides and overall one of the best star wars books. It tells every story from the start of the Rakatan Empire and through to the new set of books about Killik insects and are favourite characters. The whole history of the star wars universe is documented in this book with great and fantastic illustrations. Its great for the Star Wars fans like me who haven't read all the books and still want to know all they can. Now you can learn about characters and storylines without having to read for hours on end of dozens of Star Wars novels (but that doesn't mean you shouldn't, their all probably great) I myself have read none of the New Jedi Order books but now know the rough outline of the story the many books follow. Definetley a MUST HAVE for EVERY STAR WARS FAN. Without it you'll be lacking in STAR WARS knowledge so suggest i do you meditate on buying this book otherwise much to learn you will still have.
