The third novel in Laurell K Hamilton's Meredith Gentry series, Seduced by Moonlight continues the story of Merry Gentry, a mortal Faerie princess hiding in LA Her aunt, the immortal and insane Queen of Air and Darkness, has ordered her to compete with her cousin, Prince Cel, in making a baby. Whoever produces a child first wins the throne of the Unseelie Court. But Merry still hasn't conceived--and that's not her only problem. Unknown assassins seek her life; her magical powers are becoming potent and uncontrollable; and her sadistic aunt has just commanded her to return to Faerie.

Readers tired of mild modern fairy-tales about nice, polite elves may want to explore the Meredith Gentry series, which remembers that Faerie was originally a dark, dangerous realm of sex and violence. Hamilton's Queen of Air and Darkness is a vicious killer and torturer, and many of her fay drink blood or practice kinky sex (or both). Under royal orders to bed many males, Merry is far from averse; she and several lovers hit the bedroom on page eight of Seduced by Moonlight and don't emerge until page 175. There's no shortage of sex, but not as much as the page-count may indicate; the characters like to talk and sulk even more than they like to fornicate. The large cast and complicated backstory make this book the wrong starting point for the uninitiated; newcomers should begin with the first novel, A Kiss of Shadows. --Cynthia Ward

Book Description

I am Meredith Gentry, P.I. and Princess Merry, heir to the throne of Fairie. Now there are those among me who whisper I am more. They fear me even as they protect me. And who can blame them? I've awakened the dazzling magic that's slumbered in them for thousands of years. But the thing is, I can't figure out why. My aunt, the Queen of Air and Darkness, is no longer distracted by her usual sadistic hobbies. Her obsession has turned unwaveringly to me. The mission to get me pregnant and beat my cousin Prince Cel to the crown is taking longer than expected. Even though I spend each night with the Queen's Ravens, my immortal guards, no child has come of our decadent pleasures. But something else is happening. My magic courses through me uncontrollably. And as I lock my half-mortal body with their full-Sidhe blooded ones, the power surges like never before. It all began with the chalice. I dreamed of it, and it appeared, cool and hard, beside me when I awoke. My guards know the ancient relic well - its disappearance ages ago stripped them of their vital powers. But it is here with us now. My touch resonates with its force, and they're consumed with it, their Sidhe essences lit up by it. But even as they cherish me for this unexpected gift, there are those who loathe me for it. Me, a mongrel, only half fey and part mortal. The Unseelie court has suffered for so long, and there are some who would not have it weakened further by an impure queen. My enemies grow in number every day. But they do not know what I am capable of. Nor, for that matter, do I...

In Seduced by Moonlight, Laurell K. Hamilton brings the dark, erotic reign of the immortal fey to a startling new depth. Full of sensuality and the consuming anticipation of latent powers unleashed, this world of gods, shapeshifters, and immortal souls is unveiled in all of its supreme magnificence and treacherous deceits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Addicted to Laurell!!, 20 Mar 2004
By Shiloh (East Sussex, UK) - See all my reviews

You know when you're becoming slowly addicted to an author when you buy their books sooner and sooner. You know what I mean - you find one in a second hand book store and really enjoy it. You buy a couple more in the series in a Buy One, Get One Free Offer; you buy the rests of the series in one go just 'cos it makes sense'; to buying the large paperback and then, oh no, you HAVE to buy the Hardback cos you can't wait any longer!!

I am addicted to Laurell.I bought this book because I am also addicted to Merry. And Darkness. And Frost. And Rhys (God, what I would give to meet a real life Rhys!!!) And it didn't disappoint. From the time I opened the first page, I literally fell into the world of the Sidhe - the rest of this world ceased to exist as I devoured the latest tale of Merry Gentry and her path to, well, who knows where?!

It was a stupendous read - lots of sex, lots of magic, amazing energy. it takes you another step further along the road of this magical realm, and leaves you begging for more.

If you haven't read the first two in this series, get them NOW. But I know that I will be buying the next Laurell K Hamilton as soon as it comes out here in the UK, and I congratulate Ms Hamilton on such an intensely pleasureable series.

WOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent, 30 Jan 2004
By A Customer
I liked this book more than Caress of Twilight. Unlike the first two books, there's no mystery or investigation in this book. The first half of the book is filled with new and regained powerful magic for Merry and her men in Los Angeles. The latter half of the book takes place at the Unseelie court and is full of ten new guards, two new goblins, politics, a duel, assassination attempts, more scary Andais, and a great ending. My favourite part of Laurell K. Hamilton's books is that the heroine, by being an honorable, protecting, courageous person, gets ahead in life. Merry's responsible, humble, sheltering nature turns more and more guards to care for her more than the Queen. I liked the ending in particular because it was very tender and shows Merry's old guards easing the new guards into the very different culture of guarding Merry, which the old guards seem grateful for as a reprieve from the Queen's tender care. The book heavily hints that the next books in the series will cover their visit to the Goblin Court and the Seelie Court, and Merry keeping her bargain with Sholto. I've read it 3 times in 2 days, and now I'm re-reading the entire series again. I can't wait for the next one. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT READ, 4 Mar 2004
By A Customer
When I bought the first book in this series I instantly fell in love with it so I went straight out to buy the next one. I fell in love with that too but the problem was I've had to wait for over 8 months for this book!

Luckily the wait was worth it! This book takes us back instantly into the world of Meredith Gentry without too much of a struggle but you get into the book so well you end up feeling that it ends too soon! Most likely a clever plot by the publishers!

This book brings the mystery, suspence, back-stabbing politics and of course magic from the two previous books and makes a completely new story. We have Meredith once again sleeping with her guards in the hope to get pregnant but with an added twist to it this time! Also we have her returning to the Unseelie court which brings the reader plenty of information on court politics and the Queen herself!

This book in it's summary is a fantastic read with all the intensity from the previous books and with plenty new twists to keep the reader on their toes. Although you could read this book on its own and enjoy it you would probably benefit from buying the 2 previous books for background information and also just to enjoy. All there is left to say is BUY THIS BOOK AS IT'S AN EXCELLENT READ.
