Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Anne McCaffrey is best known for the Dragonriders of Pern, but her loose "Talents" SF series about superpsychics has been running almost as long. This began with the near-future (1973), To Ride Pegasus continuing a couple of generations later in Pegasus in Flight (1990). Book two introduced a crowd of new characters, notably the paralysed boy Peter whose telekinetic talent can not only move his body without help from his ruined nervous system, but--with practice--even lift payloads into orbit.

Pegasus in Space follows directly on, with mayhem and mutiny at the opening of a manned space station which Peter and talented friends helped build. Further hassles follow during his training for space haulage work: obstructive bureaucrats, crooked suppliers, murder attempts and skilful sabotage. McCaffrey specialises in feelgood adventure SF, full of romance, warm friendships and hearty meals. Somehow her villains never quite convince, and their villainies are so rapidly dealt with that the story rarely builds up much suspense. Meanwhile, the orphan girl Amiriyah who's adopted into Peter's family has a mysterious, subtle talent of her own, one which we soon guess will change his life ...

Our young hero's ambitions foreshadow this series' later, far-future books (beginning with the 1990 The Rowan ), whose "kinetics" hurl cargo across huge interstellar gulfs. While most people think his talent needs careful conservation, Peter has already teleported supplies to the Moon and has secret plans for Mars, the asteroids, and the moons of Jupiter. It all makes for an agreeable, lightweight read. --David Langford --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Review
"McCaffrey's world of the Talented is as vivid as that of Pern and its dragons."
--Publishers Weekly
"[McCaffrey is] a master of the well-told tale."
--Chicago Sun-Times

5.0 out of 5 stars A fitting end to a brilliant trilogy, 28 Nov 2000
By acartlidge@yahoo.co.uk (Stoke-On-Trent, England.) - See all my reviews
I've wanted to read this ever since it came out around easter... I wish I'd bought it earlier. The commissioning of Padrugoi Station and the continuing saga of Peter Reidinger is a top form Mccaffrey novel. There is also the happy ending that we have all been waiting for! (I'll say no more about that because I don't want to spoil the book if you haven't read it yet). All in all well worth the money I would recommend this book. It's a must if you have read the previous two ("To Ride Pegasus" & "Pegasus In Flight")

5.0 out of 5 stars Yet another excellent instalment in this series, 9 Mar 2001
By jrf@jokeaday.net (The Netherlands) - See all my reviews
Excellent book, just a shame we had to wait so long for it. Let's hope the next one will not make us wait so long. This is the third book in the Talent series which was started somewhere in the 70s. We see some of the characters of the previous books as they grow up to become adult and grow into their specific talents. As can be expected of McCaffrey the characters are well worked out and the plotting is excellent in it's complex simplicity. The end of the book somehow gives the impression this may be the last one in the series. I just hope it's not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aspirations over the moon and beyond the stars, 3 Dec 2003
By C. A. Preedy "capreedy" (Nottingham) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Pegasus in Space follows the teenaged years of Peter Reindinger the strongest psychic talent discovered. A warm-hearted link between the amazing Pegasus Earth Talents and the Tower & Hive Talents and continuing from where Pegasus in Flight left off with young Peter, a paraplegic since a collapsed wall paralysed his body discovers his newly developing kinetic talent and uses it to operate his wounded body.

Pegasus in Space starts in 2082, and a sideline trip to Bangladesh where 5 year old Amariyah Bantam daughter of two Talents is rescued from monsoon flooding then to the inauguration of the newly commissioned Padrugoi Space Station. Discretely integrated into the reception guests, fifteen year-old Peter and Talents Ryssa Gwyn-Lehardt and Air Force Colonel Johnny Greene foil the attempted mutiny and hijack. There for the first time Peter discovers his dream: to work in space.

Learning to ‘Hack the Black’ for EVA he uses his talent in the orbital shipyard and teleporting supplies between earth and station. With the help of Johnny Greene, the pair establishes the foundation of the Tower Talents legend and FT&T: Federated Telepath and Teleport. Learning to teleport further and discovering the secret behind gestalt, could they lift to the Moon’s First Lunar Base or even the naval outpost on Mars?

However, life does not run smoothly in space and around the next bulkhead are unexpected obstacles. With aspirations over the moon and beyond the stars his growing reputation as the strongest ever talent, will his life hold all he desires?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book but then with all Anne McCaffrey novels, what I receive surpasses what I expect and that is a good read. If you are a fan of Anne then you will enjoy this as with all her work you can immerse yourself into the detailed worlds she has created and experience the love, life and laughter and the beauty of the wonders she sees.
