1.0 out of 5 stars Poor plotline with many holes in it., 29 Jun 1999
By A Customer
This book was very disappointing. The plot was non-existent and the dialogue one-dimensional. I thought pages had fallen out of my book at the end because I couldn't believe the way the murderer was revealed, with absolutely no analysis of or connection to the clues. It seemed that the author decided that she had written enough pages to satisfy her editor, so she just said "It's obvious to everyone that the murderer is [X].", and then ended the book with another silly scene between Kip and Lauren. I usually look forward to the next book in a series, but I was not sorry to read that she has no plans to add to this series. Maybe she'll spend her free time going to some writing classes.

3.0 out of 5 stars 2 books in 1??, 24 Oct 1998
By A Customer
Good and readable as Scoppetone always is. I think the relationship between Kip and Lauren hijacked the book, so that the actual plot events weren't as terrifying and dramatic as they could/should have been. Going by the last two LL books, SS has a very good book trying to get out - one that deals with midlife relationship changes and the whole problem of having to re-evaluate our lives constantly if we want to keep them satisfying. Her dialogue is brilliant - again, between Lauren and Kip, showing how conversation can degenerate into confrontation within the space of a couple of words.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lauren Retires, 23 Sep 1998
By A Customer
Surprisingly after my review of this one, I received e-mail from Scoppettone who said she's moving on to new characters, probably under a new pen name. Good news is she'll still do crime. And if you've read any of her earlier (non Lauranos) you'll recognize the common wit and style. It will be fun to guess when her next ones come out.
