5.0 out of 5 stars Penman hits gold again!, 13 Jan 2005

This review is from: The Queen's Man (Paperback)
I read Penman's The Sunne in Splendour recently and absolutely loved it, so I decided I would like to read more of her work. The Queen's Man is the first book to feature Justin de Quincy the illegitimate son of a Bishop in the England of Richard I - who has been off fighting in the Crusades. De Quincy unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in a Medieval Murder mystery as Queen's Man to Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine. The mystery in itself is excellent, with a nice twist at the end, historical background is believable and Penman provides us with a wonderful supporting cast from Claudine the court lady to Luke to Under-Sheriff and Nell, who keeps the Gracechurch Street Inn. Excellent on all counts, I will definitely be reading more of Penman, starting with the sequel to The Queen's Man, Cruel as the Grave.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of he best history mysteries I've read., 29 Oct 2001
By A Customer
Being a fan of medieval and historical crime fiction, The Queen's Man by Sharon Penman was my best find to date. I read this book in a day because I couldn't put it down. The killing of a merchant carrying a letter to Queen Eleanor, witnessed by Justin de Quincy, a man down on his luck who is to be catapulted to become very well known as the Queen's man because of that crime. Before I had finished the book I was wanting to find another by this author. Quite simply one of the best history mysteries I've read so far. Better than Ellis Peter's Cadfael and certainly on a par with Candace Robb's Owen Archer.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very fine book - Sharon Penman is always a joy to read, 25 Mar 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Queen's Man (Paperback)
As with all Ms Penman's books I loved every page of this. She has the ability to bring her characters to life and you feel you both know and care about them. Both her medieval research and knowledge are superb and her storytelling holds you spellbound to the end.
