5.0 out of 5 stars Written by one of the masters!, 16 April 2001
Well, this book gives you what it promises: A super memory. Provided that you throw in the necessary work yourself, of course. I have reviewed many so-called "self-improvement" books and must say that this piece is not one of them. Written by a man that has proven himself in this field repeatedly this book is really not about self-improvement but about the human memory and how to help it memorise things. Loraine does indeed promise you a super memory and I can honestly say that this is the case.

However, do not be disappointed if it will not happen in a day, or immediately after you put the book down even. Contrary to what many aspiring promise-it-all books say, memory does not release itself into a sharp, never erring instrument in an instant but must be nurtured and trained regularly in order for it to become that next generation retention instrument we all hope for. Although your brain does eventually increase its birth-given recall capabilities over time if you apply the techniques (it does with me anyway) the single most impressive thing about this book is not memory improvement... it is the way that you learn how to USE your memory. Everybody can memorize a chunk of information, given enough time that is, and you are no exception to that rule. What this book learns you is to shorten the retention time (the time it takes to absorb and memorise a piece of information) to an absolute minimum. Imagine memorising complex information in one tenth of the time you do now! Well, this book does exactly that. And what a read it is.

Yes, it IS about mnemonics and no, this is NOT as tedious and tiresome a process to incorporate into daily life as you may think. But it is not a walk in the park either. Coming from a very analytical background myself, I must strain my association skills above normal in order for the mnemonic techniques to work for me and perhaps you should be prepared to do the same. If you are serious about this subject, there are few important books for you to read out there. Besides this one, let me suggest the brick piece Official Know-It-All Guide to Secrets of Mind Power by the master himself - Harry Loraine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Give this to your friends!, 6 Nov 1998
By A Customer
After I read this book, I was afraid that my brain would fill up with all the new information I was suddenly remembering!

Through a system of visual linkages, Lorayne teaches a technique for remembering names, numbers, dates and even lists of objects. The phoenetic linkages for numbers enables you to memorise telephone numbers, bank note serial numbers and addresses with very little effort. I only wish I had this book when I was learning the Periodic Table at school!

Lorayne has a few other books out on a similar topic and he has also released a few books on Magic. He occasionally appears on television, where he memorises the names of the entire studio audience and memorises packs of cards. Inspirational!

4.0 out of 5 stars ARE YOU ON THE GO, THEN IT'S FOR YOU, 23 Aug 1999
By A Customer
When I first heard the name I thought it was a speed reading book, but it turned out to be a memory book. This book is good if you are on the go, but if you have some time in your hand then you should definetly read one of his other books. All the stuff he says in the book really works. It's really great. If you buy this book, and you just read, it is usless YOU MUST TRY THE TECHINUQUES HE TELLS YOU. It really improved my memoy a lot.
