5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, 15 Sep 2008
By Sophie (Exeter) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Before I Forget (Hardcover)
I've waited all year for this book to be released since I first heard the storyline which I thought was amazing. It lives up to every single expectation. Abby walks under a ladder and gets hit on the head and is told she may lose her long term memory. To try and prevent this she makes a list of unforgettable things to do with her life, and her family and friends row in and help too. The items on the list were wonderfully inspiring but I particularly enjoyed Abby's changing relationship with her family and the tender way this was explored. I was also completely gripped by her relationship with Finn and what was going to happen between them, as throughout there was this compelling undertone that something was going to go wrong. Like Melissa Hill's other books, this was a complete pageturner and I just can't figure out how she does it. Fantastic book which I would recommend to anyone. Well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, 4 Nov 2008
By H (Milton Keynes) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Before I Forget (Hardcover)
This is the first Melissa Hill book I have read, and it didn't disappoint. I could hardly put it down. I was gripped by Abby's story. She has an accident, and afterwards is warned that she is likely to suffer memory loss, though the doctors are unsure as to how bad this will be. There are so many twists. The theme of doing the things you've always wanted to do, Abby's relationship with her various family members and friends, her romance with Finn, and her character generally, as she battles against losing her precious memories, all add up to make a heartwarming story. I'm looking forward to reading more of Hill's books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much more than chick-lit, 9 Aug 2009
By Alison Perry - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Before I Forget (Paperback)
I was beginning to find that chick-lit had become stale when along comes Melissa Hill to renew my faith.I picked up Before I Forget at the airport on en route to a holiday in Cyprus and judging by the pretty non-descript cover and rather boring description, wasn't expecting anything more than an untaxing passable read, enough to keep me going by the pool.

How wrong I was!

Although the plot and characters are unmistakably chick-lit the manner it is written in is so much more, the pages were glued to my fingers in a way I haven't experienced in a very long time and there was such a strong need to know factor that kept me riveted to every page.

Having discovered such a gem of a read I was delighted to learn that the author has had lots of other books out, and failing to find them in my local bookstore, I ordered them on amazon and am halfway through Last to Know which is just as riveting.

I really cannot understand how I hadn't heard of her before as she offers so much more than other chicklit writers out there, most of whom continue to write the same stale predictable stories.

Melissa Hill is a fabulously talented author who has renewed my faith in chick-lit and I'm so glad to have discovered her.
