5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent management book, 23 April 2007
By Anna E. Petrook - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
There are plenty of 'how-to' management books on the market but this book takes a slightly different tack. The 'six of the best' featured were all interviewed on different management issues, from leading people to managing themselves, and provide a lot of reassurance, insights and ideas for managers aiming to develop their skills in these key areas. Perhaps the most interesting - and probably the most difficult topic to naval gaze about - was 'managing yourself'. BT Global Services chief executive Andy Green was happy to admit that he is a bit of a tech junky, rarely without his mobile phone, BlackBerry and iPod, especially when travelling. But he doesn't use technology just for technology's sake, saying that personal management of time is an essential management skill.
For time-pressured managers, learning how other, highly successful business leaders do the job is probably a quicker and more sure way to find out how to do things than a 'how to' book. Well worth a read.
