About the Author

Having attended Derek's classes, I was interested to see how the book measured up. There is an impressive and interesting background to all aspects of Tap, with easy-to-follow exercises. The style of writing is natural, relaxed and encouraging. You can't beat one of Derek's classes, but for those thinking about giving Tap a go, or as a reference guide, this is an excellent book.

Learning tap just by reading about it in a book is really hard. But Derek's book makes it worth having a go!

Definitely worth buying if you're interested in starting to learn tap. There is useful information on tap shoes, for example, that I wish I'd known before buying my first pair!

The chatty style and anecdotes are very 'Derek' and really help to keep you motivated. The descriptions of the steps are very clear and act as a useful reminder if you've just started to learn a particular step. The later chapters giving instructions for complete routines are harder to follow but are worth persevering with.

This book comes well recommended- by me anyway!
