'A self-help book for people who despise the genre... The Life Audit pays its readers the compliment of assuming they're intelligent, capable people who can sort out their lives. It will make you shine a torch into the attic of your psyche.' -- Celia Brayfield, The Times 20050108 --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent read, 1 Jun 2005
By A Customer
This book is different from many self-help books, in that it gives you concrete exercises to work through. For me, working through the exercises and finding out exactly where my time goes (as opposed to where I thought it went or where I would like it to go) really hit the mark. I'm used to recording my time at work (I'm a lawyer) but seeing what I spend my "free" time on, set out in black and white, was a real eye opener. I'm starting to make some changes and think through my priorities, so that I can spend my time doing what I want, instead of doing endless chores or "losing" hours here and there. Highly recommended as a way to focus your attention on what you want out of life.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste Of Money, 1 Feb 2007
By R. Riley "robert30122" (Cottingham England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this book to take with us on holiday. The author rambles on about how her life was left empty when her children left to go to college. She obviously has far too much time on her hands so that she can write a book on how to document every aspect of ones life. The back of the book has spreadsheets where readers can log when they went to the toilet and when they watched the TV. It is a complete waste of time and money and I feel cheated at paying £7.99 in the airport bookshop.
I also bought Paul McKenna's "Change Your Life" which was £1 cheaper and had a CD included. I read Paul's book and as a result left the Life Audit at the hotel and am now living my life to the full.

1.0 out of 5 stars Could turn you into a detail freak, 12 Feb 2006
By A Customer
This book is way too prescriptive, lifeless and includes way too much obvious common sense but not much insight.

I think the idea that you can audit your life in order to improve it is way too cold and mechanical. I think you could be left with a completely efficient and yet empty existence after reading this book.

I believe it is far better to tackle some of the core issues that lead to us have such disorganised/cluttered/disfunctional lives, and then allow our natural wisdom to help us execute the necessary changes.

Completing a "Soul Stocktake", a "Leisure Stocktake", a "Mortality Stocktake" or mechanising the process by which I decide which parts of my flat to clean when, would just leave me a neurotic detail freak.

You wouldn't ask an auditer/accountant to help you improve your life or find a direction, and so I would suggest you don't read this book.
