Product Description

Daily Express

'There's a new breed of British crime writer giving the genre a much-needed shake-up - and Stephen Leather is at the forefront . . . the sheer impetus of his storytelling is damned hard to resist.' --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Review

'He explores complex contemporary issues while keeping the action fast and bloody.  In DEAD MEN Stephen Leather poses tough questions about the morality of the fight against terrorism and whether the means justifies the end.'

(The Economist )

'DEAD MEN is a hard-boiled thriller, well-paced throughout with a surprisingly well-developed sense of morality regarding the sins of the past.'

(Sunday Tribune )

'Leather, as usual, writes a great story, and DEAD MEN is another page turner.'

(Irish Times )

'[Leather] has walked the tightrope . . . Storylines provide enough complexity and personnel for Leather to drive the plot onwards . . . chapters are crisply written, action-packed and do not blunder on with meaningless, flowery details'

(South China Morning Post on DEAD MEN )

'Best action . . . since the best days of Gerald Seymour'

(Courier Mail, Australia )

'A brilliant read that stands out of the morass of so-so military thrillers around nowadays.'

(News of the World on HOT BLOOD )

'There's a new breed of British crime writer giving the genre a much-needed shake-up - and Stephen Leather is at the forefront . . . the sheer impetus of his storytelling is damned hard to resist.'

(Daily Express on COLD KILL )

'This is an aggressively topical novel but a genuinely thrilling one, too.'

(Daily Telegraph on COLD KILL )

'Exciting stuff with plenty of heart-palpitating action gingered up by mystery and intrigue . . . Leather is an intelligent thriller writer' (Daily Mail on THE TUNNEL RATS )

'Reading Stephen Leather at leisure is always a pleasure. The pacing of SOFT TARGET is superb . . .' **** (Ireland on Sunday )

'A grand finale that'll have readers on edge'

(Literary Review on COLD KILL )

'As tough as British thrillers get . . . gripping' (Irish Independent on HARD LANDING )

'A riveting read' (Sunday Life, Belfast on SOFT TARGET )

'As high-tech and as world-class as the thriller genre gets' (Express on Sunday on THE BOMBMAKER )

'As hard-boiled, punchy and exciting as we've come to expect.'

(Peterborough Evening Telegraph )

'A page-turning read which cements Leather as one of Britain's leading thriller writers.'

(Yorkshire Evening Press )

5.0 out of 5 stars Where ever l lay my hat..., 13 Feb 2008

Stephen Leather is NEVER predictable, and his latest novel shows that, having 2 nerve ending plots, and both blended in so well. He kept me on edge, and at times had to put my book down for a breather.
But what he also shown was his knowledge for the terrorists, and the way they think. Dead Men, has shown, factual l think that not all terrorists from the middle east are in tow with Jihad. But we blindly think that every terror attack is.
Then re-igniting old flames in northern Ireland, and doing his living version of Paul Young's classic "Where ever l lay my hat", read the book, and you get the meaning.
If you are a Leather fan, l am, having read everything, even private dancer, you will put it in your leather collection proudly.
Good start to the New Year.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enter Spiders web, 24 Feb 2008
Leather delivers another great Spider adventure. Here we have 2 plots which as expected converge with Spider and a whole host of action. Spider is undercover in Belfast watching/ getting close to a widow who is suspected of taking revenge on a group of ex-IRA guys who killed her husband. At the same time his boss Button, and the covert U.S. black ops Yokely are on an rich Arab's hitlist. I gave 3 stars as I preferred the tension from Hot Blood.

3.0 out of 5 stars solid and entertaining, 2 Mar 2008

Stephen Leather provides another adventure with Dan "Spider" Shepherd as once again he goes undercover on behalf of the Government. While he is tracking the potential killer of ex IRA operatives, his boss is the target of middle Eastern revenge...
The spider novels hit a high with the previous one and it was going to be hard to maintain the standard but this is a solid and entertaining thriller, easily as good as Ryan or McNab. An easy and fun read.
