Product Description

Product Description

A complete no-nonsense reference guide to massage, this book is suitable for the general reader and also the massage, sports therapies or beauty therapy student. Massage has always been a popular technique used for the relief of stress, for sports injuries and to develop sexual relationships. It is an instinctive therapy which everyone has the ability to learn. The aim of "Teach Yourself Massage" is to encourage your natural abilities and give you the knowledge and expertise to practise safely and effectively on your friends. It works on the understanding that your body and mind should not be regarded as separate entities, but that physical symptoms are often a reflection of something that is going on in our mind. Massage is an excellent tool for enabling us to become more aware of what is happening deep within us. It covers all aspects, from the history of massage, to step-by step explanations. It then goes on to cover different areas, such as massage in pregnancy and for babies, and to help with sports injuries. This edition has been restructured and includes an entire chapter on self-massage, and a glossary of useful terms to which the reader can refer.

5.0 out of 5 stars All you need to know., 9 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Best things come in small packages. Although this is quite a small volume, you will find all you need to know here. This book is ideal both for the interested amateur, and for those wishing to take their interest further.

It starts with the history of massage - the Chinese yellow Emperor makes reference to the use of massage for healing. Then it goes on to list the numerous benefits of massage, and ways to set the scene. There is some useful information of when not to massage, and details of the simple equipment you will need.

After the introduction, we have a description of all the strokes used, complete with simple diagrams, and a sequence for a full body massage.

For those needing more detail, there is a wonderfully simple section on all the relevant anatomy and physiology. It tells you all you need to know, without overloading you with indigestible information.

The book also includes an introduction to the numerous essentials oils that can be included to perform an aromatherapy massage, and more information is given on massaging babies, and massage for sports injuries.

The diagrams are simple and informative, and really do make the topic more interesting.

Buying this book has spurred me on to booking a course at my local college to study further, and already this little volume has proved extremely useful.

This is a very worthy introduction to those wanting to learn more about massage

This book is really good, giving good simplistic instructions on massages... it also has a good section on what to do for sports injuries... this book is good for anyone who wants to know the basics in body massage.
