Review

In some ways this book stands comparison with Tarka the Otter. The tone of voice and the pace are different, but the observation and the empathy are of similar quality. (Geoffrey Moorhouse )

4.0 out of 5 stars Cat Lover's Paradise, 20 Jul 2009
By Lincs Reader (Lincolnshire, England) - See all my reviews
This is the third of Marilyn Edwards' books in her series which starts with The Cats of Moon Cottage. Marilyn makes such wonderful observations of her cat's lives - she examines their every move, worries about them constantly and her and her husband's whole lives seem to revolve around them.

In this book, the family move from Moon Cottage to a cottage in Cumbria - Hutton Roof. Marilyn describes the move so vividly, how her three current cats - Fannie, Titus and Pushkin are affected by the long journey and their new surroundings and how they start to find their feet in their new home. A new home that allows them more freedom than Moon Cottage as, at last they are away from a busy main road.

Marilyn writes with a fabulous eye for detail - not just the new cottage, but the wildlife and countryside and their new neighbours are all vividly described.

These books are a real treasure, not just for cat-lovers, but anyone who loves animals and the countryside - alongside the beautiful illustrations by Peter Warner.

5.0 out of 5 stars The cottage, the cats and changing for country life in Cumbria, 2 Sep 2007
By Mary Woollacott "Cats, Kangaroos, Corgi and C... (South Australia) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Cat/animal lovers and all people who enjoy 'a good read' of any sort, will love this book. Written in Marilyn Edwards' inimitable style as shown in her previous two books, she gently shares in her observations, not only the varied activities of the beloved cat trio, Fannie, Titus and Pushkin, but richly combines them with the highs and lows of human life in general. Her husband Michael, other family members, plus friends old and new, all feature in its pages. Moments of humour, interesting snippets of general information about people and the world of nature, together with movingly described times of worry and sadness, round out and permeate the story of the planned sale of Moon Cottage and the subsequent move north to the Old Coach House at Hutton Roof in Cumbria. Peter Warner's beautiful pencil sketches put the icing on the cake to make this book a gentle joy for all who truly appreciate a lovingly crafted real-life story by this popular author.
