Product Description

Product Description

A dynamic lesson in self-motivation Everybody has some problem they feel 'stuck' with. This can be major such as 'should I change my job?' or minor like 'Should I exercise more?' The common characteristic is that you would like to move forward but feel unable to do so. This lack of motivation leads to much wasted effort, time and emotional cost. Success is based on the ability to know what you want and then to go for it. Griffiths and Kaday are both life coaches who use a technique to help people think through their own problems, sometimes with the help of others, and arrive at their own solutions. It is straightforward and uncomplicated and in this clearly set out and easy to read guide they show how to stop struggling and start succeeding.

About the Author

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book. Terrible title, 12 Nov 2004
By Ian Hobson "Ian" (Northampton, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
"How to stop struggling and start succeeding" would have been a better title, with a sub-title that talked about conducting an 8 week project to improve your life for good, using the GROW model.

Who is it for? Anyone who hasn't "got it together" or is struggling with some issue. Are you stuck? Are you facing a decision in your life that is bordering on the overwhelming? Or are you putting it off hoping it will get better if you wait? (it won't). Are you a perfectionist? Have you gone over the same ground before? Many times? Do you have too many goals? Do you feel "I can't set out until I know I can succeed? Perhaps you don't chose great goals because you are unworthy, "not good enough" or might fail? Do you secretly feel that "won't work for me", or there is a "they" that will stop you"?

If you answered a yes, then this book is for you (and welcome to the human race :) ).

GROW stands for Goals, Reality, Obstacles and Options, Way forward.

In the G section, the authors describe an easy to follow, logical process for getting things under control, finding out your feelings, and setting your goal(s). They give lots of questions and checklists, that will help you clarify your thinking, and make your goal more measurable, precise and concrete - more definite and more achievable!

Then they move on to the next 4 sections using a similar format and approach. As you explore the territory you will identify where you are (Reality) and therefore the gap to be bridged. In Obstacles you will explore the difficulties and challenges any worthwhile endeavour will present. I found the authors way of distinguishing real obstacles from justifications, to be most helpful.

In Options, as the name suggests, they look at how to create ways to overcome, avoid or circumvent obstacles. You finally pull the details together in the Way forward section, to create workable plan for the achievement of your (now refined and updated) goal.

As I worked through the book, I found my goals transformed from tentative dreams to a firm, inspiring plan that drags me on and enthuses me. I went from "struggling in quicksand" to confidently working a plan! You can do the same. It was work, but well worth the effort!

Picasso said "Our goals can only be reached through the vehicle of a plan in which we must firmly believe, and upon which we must vigorously act". This book helps you to define your goals, and create your plan, and ensure it is workable, believable and inspiring for you. You will be left with a lot of work to do and the confidence that doing it will be making progress!

5.0 out of 5 stars Feeling Brave?, 15 Jan 2005
If you really want to achieve something then Grow your Own Carrot is a must-read! The book guides you through the process to achieve your goals using an easy to follow approach.

The book is low on psycho babble and high on practicalities. It not only establishes a process to achieve your aspirations it also leaves you with a better self knowledge and an insight as to why you might not have achieved previous ambitions.

The book serves as a useful toolkit to make a significant difference to your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Success without struggle, 22 Nov 2004
By AnnA Rushton (Peacehaven, East Sussex England) - See all my reviews
There are so many books that promise to help you get on and succeed with your life = but very few that deliver. This is brilliant and makes it easy to plan and achieve your goals in life. I am a natural procrastinator so the format of short, easy sections led me through the book. It's going to be my most popular present for christmas for lots of my friends who could also do with a more success and less effort!
