Throughout the book you will follow the progress of two travellers, Mike and Lisa, on their first trip to Greece as they get to grips with the Greek script. Together you will learn how to pronounce Greek words and write the alphabet. This new edition has been completely updated to reflect changes such as the introduction of the euro.
The book is divided into two main parts. Units 1-4 introduce you to the letters of the alphabet step by step with exercises to practise each new point.
Units 5-10 introduce you to real-life situations such as reading signs, maps, notices and menus. You will be able to go shopping, recognise the names of the islands, order food from a Greek menu, use public transport and even write a postcard.
Unit 11 is a useful summary of the language commonly found in signs in Greece.
By the end of the book, you will understand how the Greek script works and will have mastered the basics of reading and writing Greek.

Dennis Couniacis is a freelance journalist and teacher of Greek. He has written articles for all the major newspapers and various magazines. He has also taught English in Greece. Sheila Hunt is a writer and teacher. She has written several maths and German revision guides.
