5.0 out of 5 stars The best introduction to film studies I have seen, 20 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This is the best introduction to film studies and the cinema that I have seen. It covers evrything I wanted to know about in a clear and accessible language. It is sensibly organised, and illustrated with b&w photographs. At this price, I'd recommend it to everyone with more than a passing interest in the cinema.

1.0 out of 5 stars Thanks, but no thanks, 13 Oct 2009
By Alex DeLarge (Dublin, Ireland) - See all my reviews
Film Studies? This isn't film studies, this is ...

Wordy, uninformed waste of trees.

If you want to teach yourself 'film studies', give this book a swerve. It's more a primer in 'how to be an HND lecturer' studies, how to pad out your theses with interminable strings of adjectives.

The Teach Yourself series is generally very good. This one is a waste of your time and money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to the world of film, 13 Dec 2000

(REAL NAME)
A great 'beginners guide' to the film industry, with notes from Hitchcock's works and background into what it takes to make a movie.
