Product Description

Product Description
TEACH YOURSELF ELECTRONICS is a first introduction to electronics. It explains simply and clearly the essentials of modern electronics - how electronic devices and circuits work and how they are used in computer, communications and control systems.

TEACH YOURSELF ELECTRONICS looks first at the fundamental concepts and general principles of electronics. It then describes the functions of devices such as resistors, capacitators, diodes, transistors and integrated circuits. The more complex principles of logic gates and Boolean algebra are clearly explained. Finally, the practical applications of electronics in instrumentation, control and telecommunications systems are described.

The book's clear, lucid style and illustrations make it the ideal introduction for GCSE students and those following BTEC courses as well as the general reader seeking a basic understanding and background knowledge of electronics today.

1.0 out of 5 stars The poorest book I have seen on the subject, 10 Mar 2002
By A Customer
The book is very 'dated', or should I say 'out of date'. It is difficult to follow because it starts on an area and then doesn't even provide all the basic information in that area before making a completely different reference to something else. It is poorly presented and written. There are many better books out there, buy one of those.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a well written book for the absolute beginner, 3 Oct 2000
This book moves over topics very quickly without explaining them well. All the information seems to be there, but more examples could be used as some conclusions are arrived at with no workings.

All the diagrams in this book are very confusing as there is no consistent style, conventional current and electron flow are often shown at the same time on the diagram where one type or the other would have been better.

The history of electronics section is very dated, and appears to have been written in the mid 80's

Unless you have already done electronics or physics I would not buy this book

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for beginners, 25 April 2007
By Yuan-min Lin "lymisme" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a book suitable for beginners. I am currently a student in stem cell research (therefore I have NO background of electronics whatsoever!!) I started to be interested in electronics because I hope to do some instruments for my project. After reading 4-5 textbooks, including famous the ART OF ELECTROCNICS, I found this book is among the best for starter because it can KEEP you being interested in electronics. Most other textbooks have far too much contents for a beginners. This book, however, gives you just enough to know general aspects of the electronics. I never fell into sleep when I read this book. However, it is better to have some general knowledge of physics before reading this book. Despite some contents are dated, it doesn't really matter for a beginner.
