Product Description

Mrs H Lowbridge, The Kings School, Wolverhampton

Easy to dip into. Neat and compact.

Review

It is a must-have for the A Level ICT department and at this price easily worth requesting the pupils to purchase. It is certainly going to be added to the booklist for my ICT teacher trainees, not in the least since we put them through a project creation process for themselves. 3.0 out of 5 stars Is it worth it?, 24 Jan 2003
A 132 page "small format" book for the price looks expensive. Flicking through may re-inforce that view. However, if you are an overworked, or disorganised A/S level student who has left the start of their I.C.T. project too late then this might just save your life!! There is very little wasted space in the book, although the author has had to cover a range of software, so some will not apply to you - most will.

There are standard ideas on how to document the different parts of your work, but for weaker students 'to do' style lists and bullet points may work well. The main strength of the book is that it manages to break what seems like an impossible task down into chunks that students can attack.

Stronger students will know most of what is to do already, the weakest will not leave time to buy or read the text! If you're in the middle ground between these two the answer to "Is it worth it?" may be "Yes, but only for a short time!!"

This book will not make it to your shelves for long, it's designed to be used once, to do a specific job. Those who will buy will be those in need of a little handy friend to ask advice of, or to gain confidence from.

5.0 out of 5 stars An essential companion for AS ICT Students, 7 Feb 2003
This little book is just what my students and I have been waiting for. It is packed full of practical suggestions and examples for every section AS ICT project work.

The book gives clear examples of what to do and also explains why each item is necessary. The explanations are in simple straighforward terms - great for my students.

The sections on implementation and testing are really helpful, showing both what is needed and how to set it out. The test plans show the art of testing and how to cleverly combine several tests in one - much more sensible.

Finally the book is very readable by both staff and students. Well worth the money.
