Product Description

Product Description

Body image is more important to us now than ever before, and it can sometimes seem that life is beautiful only if you're beautiful yourself. We spend so much time and effort trying to measure up to a glossy magazine ideal that we make our lives miserable in the process as our appearance is never 'good enough' for us. But now TV psychologist Dr Linda Papadopoulos has created the programme we all want to turn our relationship with our body into a positive one, and to feel truly great about ourselves. On a mission to curb the powerful voice of cultural pressure Dr Linda cuts through the beauty myths promoted by society. She explains the processes that lead to our poor body image and to the negative behaviour that reinforces our pessimistic views. Her practical, reassuring programme tackles the five key areas where negative body image hits us hardest - food, shopping, relationships & sex, work, and ageing. She shows how to reverse our negative self perception and revolutionise the way we feel about ourselves forever: Ditch the diet guilt and enjoy your relationship with food; Love the way you look in the changing room mirror; Make your body work for you in relationships; Hold yourself confidently in the world of work; Resist the botox and age with beauty

About the Author

Dr Linda Papadopoulos is a psychologist with her own London practice and list of celebrity clients. She regularly appears on television - as psychologist for Britain's Worst Drivers and Big Brother among others. She also is resident psychologist for Cosmopolitan, with her own monthly column, as well as being lecturer at London Guildhall University.

2.0 out of 5 stars review of mirror, mirror, 22 Jul 2004
By Ms. C. Robinson "misserialc" (birmingham uk) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this book with the hope of gaining a better body image, and a healthy attitude towards food. While it provided good insight into the reasons why we have developed poor body image, I found much of the book very repetitive and at times monotonous. In conclusion, it wasnt much of a help for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars A little condescending, 31 Aug 2004
By A Customer
I consider myself to be a sophisticated woman yet still have a body image issue relating to being overweight. Reading this book made me feel as if I was being treated like a child not a woman. There's a condescending tone as if the author was trying to appeal to every shopgirl in the country. It put me off and I found this unhelpful. Again I'm looking for an author who can offer interesting solutions to this important issue.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not intended for someone with a big body image issue, 9 Aug 2004
By A Customer
Selfhelp is not the thing I'd normally do. I've had therapy for an eating disorder and overcame that. I still have body image isues though and thought a self-help book like this might be the solution but sadly it's lacking. If you want real solutions you won't find it here. I suggest going for counsellling if you have body image issues.
