Product Description

Steve Waugh, in 'Ground Rules'
"He could even be the best English batsman I have opposed during my career."

Product Description
Described as the most exciting batsman to emerge since David Gower retired, Michael Vaughan provides a view of his own achievements during 2002. He also contemplates the controversy that surrounded England's ill-fated World Cup mission, and discusses the real story behind the decision not to go to Zimbabwe. Vaughan's thoughts about Nasser Hussain, the captain he has served most, and his other international and county colleagues are also shared. Every aspect of an intense and exciting year gets Vaughan's complete consideration - from being given out handled ball in India to clean bowling Sachin Tendulkar, from being targeted by Glenn McGrath to winning the Player of the Series award in the Ashes battle, and on to the World Cup fiasco.

This review is from: Year in the Sun (Paperback)
I am a big Micahel Vaughan fan and so was keen to read his view on his rise to stardom and other cricketing issues. While this book is a diary of that year, I had hoped for more than a simple record of events. Sadly, this book does not provide this.

While it is a good record of the years events, for me there was too much of this and not Michael's real opinions on what has happened to him. You do not get a real insight into his character and those of his team mates, nor what it is like for example to be on tour with the England team. Other diaries such as Steve Waughs are much more insightful if it is this side of cricketing life you want to read about.

Whilst the book is a decent enough read, it does not really tell you anything new about the man or his colleagues. It seems hurrie in its narrative, and I have a strong suspicions it was written more in hindsight than at the time of the events being described. I would recommend it to all Vaughan fans as a record of his year of glory, but not to those who want a more serious insight into life in camp England.
