It's not surprising this book is so popular as it seems that the Clinical Oncology FRCR Part I seems based upon it! Although good for those doing the exam, it also serves as a good reference to dip into if you are a pure radiobiologist. Theres no doubt that radiobiology is a complex subject and this reference goes some way into demistifying the whole field. It's introoduction sets the scene well and its chapter on the linear quadratic model is very well written. However its main rival 'Radiobiology for the Radiobiologist' by Hall et al, though a bulkier book, manages to fill the gaps inevitably left by this concise volume. Though essential for the FRCR Part I, at least read parts of 'Hall' as well to clarify points of 'assumed knowledge' in the 'Steel' text. The over summarising rife in this text is its major downfall but overall it is an easy read. Just remember not to blink or you'll miss a vital piece of information!!!!
