Product Description

Review
This is a novel of three layers - a light, conventional topping of witchcraft and revenants, a chewy middle section about a treasure hunt for a lost violin, all resting on a serious study of bereavement and recovery ... it is a satisfying cake of a story with some rich ingredients. -- Carousel 20020301 'A brilliant debut novel from Gill Vickery in which she skillfully interweaves family tensions of the present with the evil events of the past - all entangled with the eerie house in Hopkins Hollow. An atmospheric, engrossing read.' -- Valerie Bierman 20020301

Product Description
Staying with their father in a bizarre Gothic house in a sinister woodland, Megan and her younger brother, Brand, are struggling to come to terms with their grief and guilt over their mother's recent death. But the house harbours its own secrets, and soon Megan and Brand find themselves on a quest to find a priceless violin, and the truth about a young woman wrongly accused of witchcraft three centuries ago. Mega and Brand discover they can put right the mistakes of the past - but only if they choose to accept a dangerous bargain...

5.0 out of 5 stars A thrilling first novel, 31 Mar 2007
By Lynne Benton (Bath, Somerset United Kingdom) - See all my reviews

"The Ivy Crown" is a real page-turner. The heroine, Megan, is suffering very real grief after the death of her mother, and feels strongly that everyone, especially her father, expects her to cope with it alone, while they show great concern for her musically talented younger brother. She is also nursing a guilty secret. But it is during their stay with their father in the weird Gothic mansion in the wood that things come to a head, and history, music and the suspicion of witchcraft combine to make this fascinating story. I can thoroughly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting read for adults too. Couldn't put the book down , 1 Nov 2007
By M. V. Treaddell "Madalyn Morgan writer" (London, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought and read this book several years ago and I thought then that it was an excellent read, not only for teenagers but for adults too. It was imaginative, fantastic, frightening and it transported me to the woods, to the old house and to everywhere else in Megan's world. I lent The Ivy Crown to a friend for her daughter, who lent it to her friend who lent it to her friend - and so it went on. Where it is now I don't know, but what I do Know is, whichever bookshelf it finds itself on, it won't be there long.
