5.0 out of 5 stars A beautifully written book, 13 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Among Friends (Paperback)
I have enjoyed all Alexandra Raife's books and this one is fascinating. Louise has sadly lost her twin daughters and husband in a car crash and then moved in with Aunt Bea, who until her sudden death needed constant care. Louise, needing to make a new start, signs up with a domestic agency, but refuses to go where there are children. Her different jobs are full of interest, and Fallan, in particular, turns out to be enjoyable, but then becomes a challenge. She copes beautifully and you find what a kind and loving person she is. A story to keep you absorbed and the characters are wonderfully portrayed. There are characters from previous books and I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A warming tale of adversity replaced by love and security, 17 Mar 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Among Friends (Paperback)
Alexandra Raife has managed to put together all the ingredients for a totally warming, heartening, encouraging and fulfilling story. She manages to weave together grief, loss, and loneliness, with love, caring, courage, and healing, to bring about an outcome of security, happiness and contentment.

It all takes place in superbly described backdrops with interesting and colourful details.

One of those books you could read more than once for the warm glow and contentment affect you are left with. Wendy Bennett

4.0 out of 5 stars Good storytelling with endearing characters., 15 Nov 2001

(REAL NAME)
I really enjoy Alexandra Raife's books. I thought this one to be one of her best. We meet old friends Cass and Rick from The Wedding Gift and many, many new ones. We love some of them and dislike others as it should be in a well-told story. Louise's process of learning to live with grief the best way she can and then overcoming it seems believable. Certainly we can predict the ending but not exactly how the ending will come about. Is Louise too good to be true? Perhaps yes, but this is a feel-good book and when you finish it, you smile.

This is how her best books previous books are. Women with characters of variety & depth. You can beleive in them. I can feel myself wanting to wring the eldest's neck! Read more
