Product Description

Michel Thomas's approach to language learning aims to provide in a few hours a functional working knowledge of a language without books, note-taking or conscious memorizing. This cassette provides an eight-hour course in German.

About the Author

Michel Thomas is a world-famous language teacher with an incredible skill to teach in days what usually takes years to learn. A psychology graduate, Michel survived starvation in French concentration and slave-labour camps, endured torture at the hands of Klaus Barbie and, after the war, hunted Nazis as an officer with US Counter Intelligence.

These unique, challenging and varied experiences helped him to forge his revolutionary learning system that is in demand from heads of industry and movie stars alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic course, 14 May 2004
By A Customer
I tried to learn German for several years before trying this course but always got snared up on grammar, which I just couldn't understand. This course changed everything for me. I'm just waiting for the follow up now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective method, 27 Jul 2001
By A Customer
I was sceptical when I bought this method, but did so as I knew people who had used Michel Thomas tapes with other languages. His method gives a feeling for the language; an ability to "see" what you should be saying. I found that I quickly remembered the grammatical structures. That is essentially what Thomas gives: the structure of the language. Reading newspapers with the aid of a good dictionary fills in the vocabulary gaps. If you use the Thomas method to gain a feeling for the language, then use a conventional textbook to fill the grammatical gaps you will learn German much quicker than just using a conventional method.

Results come extremely quickly as well, which is the true beauty of the method.

Outstanding. Hopefully he will do an "advanced" German course soon.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too slow at the beginning and rushed at the end., 30 May 2002
By Old Den (Bedford, UK) - See all my reviews
Having enjoyed the equivalent French and Italian courses I found this German one disappointing. The two students are quite shy and diffident and a lot of time is spent trying to teach them an almost perfect accent with which they have great difficulty. The result is that a lot of the more advanced instruction towards the end is given in a rush. The French and Italian courses are much better with students who are bright and responsive with the result that the courses are well balanced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! This man is a genius.
I've taught myself German a couple of times before, and though it's sunk in, it's all been forgotten quickly too. Read more
