This book is the most thorough and thoughtful treatment of the problems encountered by those wishing to give up smoking permanently. The depth of knowledge and research is immediately evident in the structured chapters which emphasise the individual nature of each smoker's habits and anxieties. The force of the writing lies in the evidence presented by callers to the Quitline and the very positive responses outlined by the counsellors who are highly trained to respond to the nature of each person's addiction. The success of the book, however, lies in the non-judgmental stance of the writer, who manages with great skill to present her expertise and knowledge with "no voice" of her own. The information and advice stand alone in their indisputable truth. If this book were to be seen on every bookshelf and in every home and public institiution, the world certainly be a healthier and happier place. The writer believes in strategising so that willpower is not the issue in the fight aginst smoking. I can't think of a better way of tackling the problem or a better book to help a person regain personal freedom. My advice is to buy a copy and place it where it may be of help to someone you love when the time is right.
