5.0 out of 5 stars Buy first, think later: a cookbook for impatient shoppers, 9 April 2001
By A Customer
I love cooking but I prefer eating and I don't like recipes. That's why I really love this book. It looks great and has plenty of good suggestions but so do most cookbooks. What seems a bit different about this one is it encourages you to go out and but whatever's fresh (preferably from a farmers' market, but a supermarket would be OK), then take it home and look up how to cook it - rather than going out with a great list of things to buy for the sake of the recipe, which I always find offputting. I haven't had it long so I've only tried a few of the ideas, but so far so good: risotto with oyster mushrooms came out excellent, so did beef fillet with rosemary and mustard crust; also apple, pear and ginger smoothie for breakfast. Really useful for the impatient shopper!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a cookbook about Food!, 15 April 2001
By A Customer
In an age of year-round produce availability in the Supermarket it is easy to forget both where our food comes from and, more presciently, what really good, fresh food tastes like. The Farmer's Market Cookbook reconnects us with how our food comes to our table and where it comes from, and reminds us that the key to good food does not start with recipes, but from the freshness and quality of the ingredients themselves. Kudos to Ms. Planck for creating recipes that get to the heart of one of the true, great pleasures in life-- eating excellent food simply prepared.
