Review

Madelaine is content to play wife, mother and tennis until handsome Max comes to town and opens an antique shop. She falls heavily for this latest flirtation on the dinner party circuit. But although philandering is accepted in 1970s suburban Solihull, Madelaine breaks the strict rule of not to fall in love.A witty, sharp and poignant tale from the author of My Canap Hell.

Product Description

5.0 out of 5 stars hilarious - footballers' wives meets abigail's party, 17 April 2002
By A Customer
Set in 70s Solihull, this is one of the best reads I've had in a long time. A friend recommended it to me and I loved it. It's funny, it's witty, the love story had me hooked and there are hilarious details like the clothes and dialogue and music. It's a great summer page-turner!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Rotters Club for Girls., 9 Aug 2002
By A Customer
This is a deeply seductive novel. It's funny and moving, the period detail is hilariously spot on and used to great comic effect and most importantly, the characters feel like old friends after just a couple of pages. I've also read The Rotters Club and enjoyed it's blokey look back at the decade that taste forgot. Shagpile is easily it's equal, but has at it's heart a wonderful love story which was much more to my taste.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 22 Jul 2008
This review is from: Shagpile (Paperback)
Been reading it on a week off sick, really funny but heartwarming. Its a look back at the Seventies, how the views of people were more hypocritical and how women were expected to be.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sorry, but I found this completely unreadable..
I don't often buy a book, and get no further than the first 20 pages...

The idea is a brilliant one - and I remember just enough of the 70's to make me think it would resonate... Read more
