4.0 out of 5 stars A good book; but that still dosn't make it nice to read., 6 Mar 2002
By A Customer
This book deals with the rise and mechanics of the Nazi government. As a course book on the subject, I find 'The Nazi Dictatorship' extremely useful. Informative and thought provoking, it provides an overview of the rule of Hitler and the members of his government; presenting the major political views on the dictatorial regime. The historical facts are clearly presented, making the reading of the book easer, although this cannot help aid the study of some of the less pleasant truths of which it has to deal with.
I cannot place my hand on my heart and say that I found the reading of this book enjoyable. The subject's which this book deals with do not make for comfortable reading, however I didn't find this book hard to read, it's presentation and style of writing allow for the easier digestion of the hard facts this book presents.

2.0 out of 5 stars My opinion of the contents, 5 Nov 2004
I purchased this book at the beginning of the week and was really looking forward to reading it. I did look around the market for books on Nazism and others based on Hitlers rule and the Third Reich however this book was 'sold' to me on the basis of this comment ....

"however I didn't find this book hard to read, it's presentation and style of writing allow for the easier digestion of the hard facts this book presents."

I am not dumb or simple to any stretch of imagination but I quite simply find this book very hard to digest. I have not lasted 2 chapters and already I have given up. I do not doubt this book is informative and very useful to someone with a higher level of English.

If you doubt your level of reading I would not suggest you buy this book however at the same time I am not taking anything away from the quality of the book, I am sure it is informative to many.

Many thanks,
David

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview, 31 Jan 2008
This is an excellent scholarly overview of many aspects of the Nazi dictatorship and deserves to be read widely. With its study of often very complex ideas which require the use of correspondingly complex language, it is not as easily readable as, for example, the author's two-volume biography of Hitler and "The Hitler Myth: Image and Reality in the Third Reich". However, perseverance with this text is very rewarding.
