Product Description

James Carroll only meant to do one deal to get to film school. But it went wrong. Now he owes GBP30,000 to drug-dealer Roger Oates. Just a year of quiet business away from retiring with his beloved family to his dream home in Honolulu, Roger knows this is no time to let anyone get away with anything. So if James can't pay, his parents must. But Francis Carroll has put everything he has into a project that will finally bring him the success he craves. He simply cannot afford to bail out his son. And his ambitious wife Rachel wants a baby - while his dangerously alluring first wife wants him back. It's no good asking them. Everyone wants to keep a grip: on their money and their jobs; on their dreams. But something's got to give. Written with terrific verve and a sharp eye for the details of human behaviour, "Grip" is a roller-coaster ride of suspense and surprises.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast paced and very funny, 9 Jun 2006
This review is from: Grip (Paperback)
I raced through this book, which has the fast pace and devious criminals of a classic thriller, but some well-spoken middle-class types as its heroes. The contrast leads to some very funny passages, which together with the vivid background of a London summer and a series of genuinely unexpected twists makes for a gripping read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dark in Places, 26 Sep 2008
Despite a couple of areas of dark humour this is a standard thriller about 5 characters linked to a drug deal, how it went wrong and the subsequent attempts to get a grip on the situation.
I must admit that I didn't like the story to start off with as the main characters were upper middle class twits and despite their education made some incomprehensibly stupid decisions. I ended up cheering on the gangster! However despite this I began to get into the book after the first 100 pages. Then I found it a very well written thriller and it kept me hooked until the very end.
